Endodontics
Root canal treatment removes inflamed or infected pulp, disinfects the internal space, and seals the tooth.
After diagnosis and anesthesia, the tooth is isolated; inflamed or infected pulp is removed, canals are cleaned and sealed, and the tooth is restored for protection.
Tenderness, persistent infection, missed anatomy, instrument or irrigation complications, fracture, discoloration, or need for retreatment or surgery can occur.
Depending on the tooth, alternatives include monitoring when appropriate, vital-pulp therapy, endodontic retreatment, surgery, or extraction with or without replacement.
Inflammation or infection may cause increasing pain, abscess, bone loss, swelling, or loss of a tooth that might otherwise be saved.
What confirms the diagnosis? Can the tooth be restored? Will I need a crown, specialist, or more than one visit?
